Hereford Oak Buildings is a family run business based in North Herefordshire, just outside of Leominster. Our team of fully qualified carpenters and joiners has a wealth of experience acquired over many decades. We provide a complete oak frame design and construction service, working with you to plan a unique project that fits your property and budget.
Our History
We were founded in 1995 by Kevin Whittall and have now grown to employ a number of local craftspeople. As we’re family run Kevin’s wife and his son Ben are also both an integral part of the operation. All work is bespoke and ranges from restoring historical buildings to brand new oak porches, extensions and replacement doors, all made at the in-house joinery shop. We’re proud of our team and their skills and have trained many apprentices over the years.
We are full of great ideas and are always happy to chat about projects of any size.

The Design Process
Hereford Oak Buildings have decades of experience in creating contemporary buildings using the traditional methods of green oak framing. We always start with a site visit, and can meet with your architect, conservation office or structural engineer to discuss how best to collaborate on your project. If you just have the start of an idea we can advise on what may suit your plot, existing building, budget, and style. As we provide a complete service you’ll always have one of our team as a point of contact throughout the whole process. As soon as a design is agreed, and has the correct planning permission if required, your project will start to take shape in our workshop.
Our Workshop
Our craftspeople use traditional woodworking skills in our purpose built in-house workshop. All our oak frames are hand crafted from high quality timber and preassembled to check all fits. Once quality is assured the frame is dismantled and transported to site. Our joinery workshop uses traditional hand processing to produce top quality bespoke oak frames and specialist joinery products.
Site Management and Construction
Project management and customer satisfaction is very important to us. We can oversee all of our projects from start to finish in every aspect due to our wealth of contacts within the industry. Our team are rightly proud of the quality of their work.
